Summit EMEA 2019

Summit EMEA 2018 in Dublin has just finished yesterday and I still try to count all impressions. It was the great one with 221 sessions and now we can start to think about the next year Summit.

Only one part was missing – NAVUG part of the Summit and I really hope that we will have NAVUG Summit in EMEA the next year, especially because now NAV (of course Business Central) is a very important part of Dynamics 365 family. Before that I’m happy to see all UG’s in Phoenix later this year.

And now, where will Summit EMEA be the next year?

Currently we have four options to choose: Amsterdam, Barcelona, London or Nice. If you want to give your vote, it is not too late and you can do it here. The last time when I checked results, it was like that:

Anyway, see you in one of the these four cities the next year.

What we can expect from D365 for Finance and Operations – Summit EMEA

I usually don’t write about this topic (Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations). My topics are more related with Dynamics NAV or Dynamics 365 Business Central in the future. But this time, I think I heard a lot of amazing news here in Dublin on a Summit EMEA from Muhammad Alam (D365FO GM) and want to share it.

OK, first Muhammad discuss about all great news in this spring update and how we can use all these features as well as together with the other services available as integrations.

But after that, he announced what we can expect soon in this fall update (of course, not everything, but some very nice features). The main topic in the fall update will be Intelligence & Insights, Productivity & Usability and Adaptability trying to improve as more as possible performance, automation, supportability and integrations.

And based on his speech, we can expect the following features:

Finance / Public Sector Enhancements:

  • Enhanced reporting/inquiries
  • Budgeting enhancements
  • Encumbrance enhancements
  • Vendor collaboration enhancements
  • Distribution of interest accrued on cash balances
  • Vendor 1099 enhancements (US)

Revenue Recognition Management:

  • Revenue automation to comply with IFRS15 and ASC606
  • Support product bundles/kits:
    • Software and maintenance
    • Software and services
    • Software, hardware and services
    • Bundles of multiple elements
  • Deferred revenue management
  • Revenue recognition schedules
  • Subscription & renewals
  • Revenue forecasting & reporting

Supply Chain Management:

  • Advance Warehousing:
    • Advanced X-docking
    • Catch weight integration
    • Replenishment slotting plan
    • Put to wall / Put to store
    • …many more
  • Advanced Trasportation
  • Retail Pack & Ship
  • Small package
  • Material handling

Probably we will have more, but this is just the first list.

And on the end, important information; from October 2018, Microsoft announces end of mainstream support for old versions: AX 2009, AX 2012 RTM and AX 2012 R2. There will be upgrade plans for migration to Dynamics 365 FO and we can expect public preview for AX 2012 in April 2018 and for AX 2009 in May 2018.

Summit EMEA 2017 (NAVUG, AXUG, CRMUG)

For the first time in the last 10+ years, I was on the conference with NAV topic, but I didn’t spend whole time on NAV sessions. This time, on Summit EMEA, I wanted to hear as more as possible about all news in Dynamics world. Because of that, I was on AX, CRM and PowerBI sessions as well. Of course, I was on a few NAV lectures.

Summit

In NAV world, there were a lot of interesting topics about the best practices in functional and technical areas. From my perspective, the most interesting sessions been about integration with PowerBI and Extensions, but this is my subjective opinion. Generally, in NAV world, we didn’t have some news and probably we need to wait this fall to get something new.

On the other side, I attended on a few AX and CRM sessions and it was interesting for me. The first because I’m not so experienced in these areas and the second, because they have some news. In the AX world, Microsoft announced AX on-prem (actually AX with “local data”); we use this “local data” expression because we have company data on a local, but LCS is still in the Azure. Presentations about this topic were really interested. An on the end, Amsterdam was awesome – a true host.

Amsterdam

As the conclusion; the amazing conference with a more than 1000 participants, mostly from user’s side and the great content. The great opportunity for networking… again I met a lot of interesting people. The next one will be in one of the next cities and I will be there for sure:

What would you like for the next year? Where should you go: Belfast, Dublin, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Glasgow or Amsterdam again?

And of course, in the next few days, I’ll publish more details about content if you are interested.
