Dynamics 365 Accountant Portal on a Phone

I already wrote about using Accountant Portal in Dynamics 365 for Financials. And now just imagine if you are accountant and your client call you about some very important information when you are out of office. Generally you have your phone in your pocket in almost all situation and as we know we have Dynamics NAV/365 App for iPhone, Android and WP.

Good information is that when you installed Accountant Portal extension, it is available on a Phone Client as well. And you will have the same features.

apph01

You will see the same basic information on a Phone Client as on the Web Client. When you click on your client, you will see more detailed information on whole page. and if you want to work with your client, system will continue opening your client instance.

Because you can run it not only from Phone Client, system will offer you to open it with your App and then you can continue with standard using Phone Client and all standard features. But depends of your phone, you have a link to check if your device is supported and to download App if you already didn’t.

Very easy and absolutely in the spirit of ‘Cloud first, mobile first’.

Universal App in Phone and Tablet Without Icons

Sometimes, when we install Universal App on our smartphone or tablet (NAV 2016 and NAV 2015 – only for tablets), we can notice one issue with missing Icons (Actions, Images,…). This is not something serious, but it can be unpleasantly.

UnAppNoIcons.png

But, it can be solved very easy. The reason of this issue is because your browser has configured Font download option as disabled.

NoFonts

You can solve this changing this property or adding your site as Trusted. To do this, you need to open your Internet Explorer, run your Microsoft Dynamics NAV web client and open Internet Options. Choose Security tab and choose Sites on the Trusted sites option. Add this sites as trusted and this is solved. Second way is to open Custom level and find Downloads section and change Font download to Enabled.

Now, you can run your Universal App again and everything will be fine:

Bricks in NAV 2016 Phone Client

When we use lists in NAV 2016 Phone Client, we can notice some differences. This difference is based on new Field Group in NAV 2016. We can use a Brick Field Group to optimize space and readability for data that appears in page types such as ListPart, ListPlus, and List. The brick view compresses up to six columns of data and is only displayed when the page is shown on the NAV Phone client.

Picture1

This view has some limitations, for example you cannot delete directly in the list, indentation in repeater controls is not available, factboxes, multi selection, custom sorting, and advanced filtering are not available…

To open the Field Groups window, choose View, and then choose Field Groups. In a table, we can see two Field Groups: DropDown and Brick. If Brick Field Group doesn’t exists, DropDown is interpreted as Brick. Depending on the number of columns that we defined in the Field Group for the Brick, the layout was dynamically change.

The brick layout supports using the Style Property and StyleExpr Property on pages that lets you mark, for example, numbers as favorable or unfavorable.

NAV 2016 Universal App System Requirements

In my few articles, I’ve already wrote about Phone Client in NAV 2016 and how to install it on own smartphone with self-signed certificate. Also, I already wrote about NAV 2016 system requirements.

But in all of these articles, I didn’t wrote about system requirements for phone client. And now, it is not phone client; it is an NAV Universal App. It can work on any device you have, but if this device meets requirements.

In short, Universal App can work on devices with Windows 10/8.1, Windows Phone 8.1, iOS 8.4 and Android 4.4.3 with minimum 1 GB RAM (for Windows and Android). Tablets must meet minimum 7″ screen size with minimum 960×510 resolution and Phones must meet minimum 4″ screen size with minimum 854×480 screen resolution.

In my older article about system requirements I said that there are not official data, this is my research. But if you want more about official system requirements, try here on MSDN. I hope, this is a clear.

How to Install NAV 2016 Phone Client as Test Environment

We have new NAV 2016 more than two weeks. One of the really exciting news is using of Universal Apps. We finally can use NAV on phone.

But one of conditions of using of Phone Client is installing of security certificate. This is the same story as we already have in NAV 2015 for using of Tablet Client. If we have signed certificate, there is no problem. But if we have not it…

Can we use self-signed certificate on phone? Yes, we can. I will show how to do it on Windows Phone.

Of course, first we need to download Dynamics NAV Universal App for Windows Phone from Store. Type Dynamics NAV in Store Search and download this app. You can easy find it as app made by Microsoft Corporation with new logo.

Than we have to have installed NAV 2016. In my example, I’ve installed NAV 2016 on Azure. You can do it easy if you have Azure subscription. Or you can do it on your own servers and install self-signed certificate on your server. If you deploy NAV 2016 on Azure using PowerShell scripts, you will have already created certificate. I’ll install this certificate on my own computer in Internet Explorer.

Run your Internet Explorer as Administrator and type your NAV 2016 Web Client URL. Choose “Continue to this website (not recommended).” and click on “Certificate error” > “View Certificates” > “Install Certificate”.

PhoneClient1

Choose Local Machine and “Place all certificates in the following store” > Browse > “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” > OK > Next > Finish > OK > OK.

Open MMC on your computer and add Certificates as snap-in using Add/Remove Snap-in command. Open “Certificates – Current User” > “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” > Certificates and find your already installed certificate. Right-click on certificate and chose Open. Go to Details tab and click “Copy to file” > Next > Next and choose your certificate name. Save this certificate XXXXX.cer on your computer and send it to your e-mail (e-mail using on your phone).

When you get this e-mail on your phone, click on your certificate in attachment and install it. Then run your Dynamics NAV Universal App and type your service URL https://YourComputerName/WebServerInstance and your username and password.

PhoneClient2

If you finished everything I said, you will open your NAV instance on your phone as you can see on picture.

NAV 2016 Web/Tablet Client – Multi Company and Language

One of the lacks in old Web Client was impossibility to change companies and/or languages. It was pretty inconvenient for using. Answers from Microsoft were that we have to use different Web Server Instances. But, imagine we have 10 companies and we need 3 languages. What the final number of Web Server Instances will be necessary?

I suppose my customers will survive this issue on Web Client, but imagine one manager who manage 10 companies and uses Tablet Client. We cannot expect from on manager to change instances for each of his companies.

websettings

But, as I said, it was a problem. Only, it was. Finally we have got a solution for our wishes. Microsoft is listening us. We got everything we ask and more. Now it is now possible to dynamically switch the language, region, time zone, company, and work date of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web Client. As I said, it is more then we ask. But, the best is we can use it on Tablet and Phone Client as well.

tablet sett

For the most changes, we just need to set changes and sign out and sign in again to have the change take effect. We can change it using “My Settings” command. These settings are now removed from the Web.config file and it is now part of Web Client user configuration.

NAV 2016 Phone Client

Few months ago, Microsoft has announced new Phone Client for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016. With today’s NAV 2016 general availability, we can check it. First, NAV has new icon; sails no longer exist. This is new set of icons:

NAVIcons

And now again, Phone Client. You can download new NAV 2016 App for iPhone from Apple iTunes. Also it is possible to download from Google Play and Windows Store. You just need to type “Dynamics NAV” in search and you can easy find them. Download them and type your service, username and password. Finally, you can use NAV on all devices and all systems. It looks line:

NAVMobile

If you’ve just installed NAV 2016 from Partner Source, you can check how it looks like using Web browser. You just need to add phone.aspx behind .. /WebClient/ (smilar as for Tablet Client emulation) and change the size of browser to emulate phone size; and you don’t need a HTTPS certificates. You will see that Phone Client looks awesome and everything works fine and smoothly. And you can use camera from your phone directly in NAV, for example for document capturing. But for this feature, you have to use this app from phone, because camera cannot be emulated from your browser.

More news, soon.
