Posting Groups in Service Management in NAV

I’ve already wrote 27 articles about using of Posting Groups in NAV. Now, I’ll continue this series with the new topic – Service. When we use Service Order, all posting will be based on the following flow-chart:

ServiceFlCh.jpg

You can notice, this is very similar with postings in Sales, but we have some specifics about using of additional fees. But if you look at the part based on Service Lines, everything is the same. I want to accent that this part is drawn for items ()because of usage Inventory Posting Group and Location); if you use G/L Account or Resource, there will not be inventory postings.

Now, let look at the posting results. First, if we decide to post “Ship and Consume” from Service Line, that means these lines have been used for servicing but cannot be included in the invoice to the customer and we will have only inventory postings if we used items (in other cases, we will not have anything for posting):

But if we decide to post “Ship and Invoice” from Service Line, the result will be different. In this case, we have some additional entries except inventory posting:

And on the end, we need to finish posting from Service Order. If we have not some additional fees for invoicing, it will not be anything for posting, but if we have additional fees, it looks the same (for “Ship and Consume” and “Ship and Invoice” examples):

Finally we’ve started with Dynamics Exams. Currently, there are following exams available:

  • NAV Core Application Setup Certification

As you seen, currently there are only three exams, but we will get new NAV exams in Q2 2016:

  • NAV Core Development Certification

All these exams are prepared by Association of Dynamics Professionals. The vision of the Association of Dynamics Professionals (DynamicsPro) is that every Dynamics professional recognizes and adheres to high quality and certification standards for all Microsoft Dynamics products. I am part of this project and I think these exams are really good way to approve your knowledge and recognition. I know other people who are involved in these exams preparation and I strongly believe in this. Exams were written by people who know what it takes to have a successful project. They will help consultants deliver excellent service and ensure they meet professional quality standards.

Beginning this month – February, exams will be available on many different location in US and finally in Europe. You can register for exams here. Please take a look and register for the next exam in your area. February Cumulative Updates for NAV

Today, Microsoft has been released a new Cumulative Updates for the following NAV versions:

You can download all of these Cumulative Updates from the previous links. Of course, as we already expected, the most platform and application hotfixes are intended for the newer NAV versions. For example, NAV 2013 has only one Application hotfix and two Platform hotfixes; and few local hotfixes as well. NAV 2013 R2 has some more Application and Platform hotfixes, but there are still just few.

  • NAV 2016 and NAV 2015 again have some common hotfixes as:
  • Ways to split Sync-NAVTenant into multiple transactions
  • The Dynamics NAV client crashes if you filter on @*
  • You cannot copy a company to another tenant
  • Cannot export to Excel from the web client if the relevant page has the SourceTableTemporary property set to Yes
  • Invoke-NAVCodeunit always runs in the Dynamics NAV client time zone

There are a lot of interesting hotfixes and you can see all details on previous links.

Universal App in Phone and Tablet Without Icons

Sometimes, when we install Universal App on our smartphone or tablet (NAV 2016 and NAV 2015 – only for tablets), we can notice one issue with missing Icons (Actions, Images,…). This is not something serious, but it can be unpleasantly.

UnAppNoIcons.png

But, it can be solved very easy. The reason of this issue is because your browser has configured Font download option as disabled.

NoFonts

You can solve this changing this property or adding your site as Trusted. To do this, you need to open your Internet Explorer, run your Microsoft Dynamics NAV web client and open Internet Options. Choose Security tab and choose Sites on the Trusted sites option. Add this sites as trusted and this is solved. Second way is to open Custom level and find Downloads section and change Font download to Enabled.

Now, you can run your Universal App again and everything will be fine:

New NAV Cumulative Updates

In few first days of this year, in January Microsoft has been released a new Cumulative Updates for the following NAV versions:

You can download all of these Cumulative Updates from the previous links. Of course, as we already expected, the most platform and application hotfixes are intended for the newer NAV versions.

One specific platform hotfix is prepared for all four versions – The Dynamics NAV client disconnects when you refresh a sub part.

But few of them are prepared for the last three versions (NAV 2016, NAV 2015 and NAV 2013R2):

  • Bypass license check for development permissions;
  • You cannot remove items from the Home menu of the navigation pane;
  • “Metadata for Query 50000 that is published as a web service is not valid for OData” error message when you use a web service built on a query;
  • Actions in profiles that are controlled by dynamic visibility are hidden incorrectly.

Of course, there are more very interesting hotfixes and news and some of them will be detailed described in next period. For now, just download, install and try.

A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

This is almost the end of this year and I want to wish to all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

merry-christmas-and-happy-new-year.jpg

It is also the time to make a small retrospective of this year. Personally, this year was really great for me, as well as the previous year. I had a lot of very good projects, I started with publishing new magazine (and already got the award for this idea), I traveled a lot of countries and I was speaker on lot of very interesting conferences all around the world (and also in my country). I met a lot of new good friends. We got a new really exciting NAV version… I hope the next year will be the same and maybe even better.

I want to say thanks to all people that supported me. Of course, thanks to all people that do not supported me :-); they are a reason I am trying to be better. I want to all of you to have a year that is better than I already had this year (this is not so easy, but I really wish this for you 🙂 ). I also hope, we will get an awesome new version of NAV (‘Madeira’) next year; I already know some features and I am sure it will be really amazing new version.

And, of course, special thanks to my friends all around the world and especially to my family (my wife, son and dog).

New CUs for NAV 2015, NAV 2013R2 and NAV 2013

Yesterday I’ve published article about the first CU for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016.

Only one day after this release, Microsoft also published new Cumulative Updates for:

Now, you can download and try them.

NAV 2016 Universal App System Requirements

In my few articles, I’ve already wrote about Phone Client in NAV 2016 and how to install it on own smartphone with self-signed certificate. Also, I already wrote about NAV 2016 system requirements.

But in all of these articles, I didn’t wrote about system requirements for phone client. And now, it is not phone client; it is an NAV Universal App. It can work on any device you have, but if this device meets requirements.

In short, Universal App can work on devices with Windows 10/8.1, Windows Phone 8.1, iOS 8.4 and Android 4.4.3 with minimum 1 GB RAM (for Windows and Android). Tablets must meet minimum 7″ screen size with minimum 960×510 resolution and Phones must meet minimum 4″ screen size with minimum 854×480 screen resolution.

In my older article about system requirements I said that there are not official data, this is my research. But if you want more about official system requirements, try here on MSDN. I hope, this is a clear.

My PPTs from Directions EMEA and NA

I’ve just published my Power Point presentations from both of Directions conferences. You can find presentations from Directions EMEA and Directions NA. I didn’t want to publish them earlier because Directions NA wasn’t closed.

Now, you can find all details from these two presentations and learn how to implement standard NAV solution in construction business. If you need some help about this, give me a question. If you want to know more about vertical solution for NAV in Construction, I will answer everything you need.

Presentation from Directions EMEA 2015

Presentation from Directions NA 2015

These presentations will be available for download until the end of this year.
