My Sessions on Directions NA and EMEA

Few days ago, I wrote about new Directions NA and EMEA. Now I can announce my sessions. I’ll have sessions on both of these Directions.

Directions

First, about Directions NA, I’ll have two sessions. First session is about Azure and NAV, i.e. How to choose the best possible Azure platform for NAV. This session will be on the end of first day (5:15-6:15pm).

Second session will be related with some soft skills and it will be Water-Agile-Fall methodology and NAV implementation. This session will be the first after Keynote at the second day (10:15-11:15am) and I hope, this topic is interesting enough to come so early :).

Regarding Directions EMEA, I’ll provide the same session about NAV and Azure as on Direction NA. This session will be 12.10. at 17:15-18:15.

See you there.

How to Configure Bricks – Madeira and NAV2017

I’ve got a few questions how to configure Bricks I already wrote on NAV 2017. Generally, Bricks are not something new. We already had a Bricks on NAV 2016, but we used them only in Phone Client. I already wrote how to configure Bricks on Phone Client here.

I don’t expect something special in NAV 2017 about Bricks. To open the Field Groups window, on Table Designer just choose View, and then choose Field Groups. In a table, we can see two Field Groups: DropDown and Brick. If Brick Field Group doesn’t exists, DropDown is interpreted as Brick.

Brick.jpg

What is new here? News is that we can use Bricks in other clients. I still cannot speak more about it (it is still by NDA), but everything I mention is the same as on NAV 2016. And yes, if you want picture on item, you need add picture as part of Brick Field Group. About Project “Madeira” you cannot use Development Environment for customization and you can change it only using Extensions.

I hope, this is good enough. More about it when we get official release of NAV 2017.

Directions 2016 NAV Conferences

In this moment, we have the final countdown until Dynamics NAV conference season will start. We have 47 days until the opening Directions NA and 64 days until the opening Directions EMEA this year.

Directions.png

This year Direction NA will be held the first, but Directions EMEA will be only 17 days later and I’m sure we have something new on both of them. Currently we have published agenda only for Directions NA, but I’m pretty sure that agendas will be similar, maybe with only small changes.

I love these conferences and I’m sure you will find a lot of reasons to attend on one of them, depending where you actually live. I think that the most important reasons will be launching of NAV 2017 and Project “Madeira” as well as Dynamics 365. You will find a lot of sessions about news in these new products. You will also learn more about integration with other systems, about using of PowerShell, how to take advantage of using Managed Services, how to improve your knowledge in lot of different areas… Also, you will learn more about project management, user experience, get some real-life experience… You will enjoy in awesome Keynotes … and maybe the most important – meet new people. I think these kind of events are the best places for networking; people are the most important wealth… and you can find and meet a lot of them on these conferences because they are the biggest NAV conferences.

In the same time, you can attend Cloud Sure Step sessions or try to pass new NAV exams powered by Association of Dynamics Professionals. I advice you to try some of these exams; I had participation in some of them and I think they are very good way to prove your expertise.

And finally, I will be lecturer on both of these conferences and I hope I’ll meet a lot of you – amazing people. See you there:

New Dynamics NAV August 2016 Cumulative Updates

Currently Microsoft hasn’t yet published that new Cumulative Updates are already published on their blog. But they already published Cumulative Updates for NAV 2015, NAV 2013 R2 and NAV 2013 in Friday. And, they have just published CU for NAV 2016 today.

You can download all these Cumulative Updates from the following links:

There are a lot of interesting Platform and Application hotfixes and local hotfixes as well and you just need to download and test them. I’ve just noticed them and I need to check all of these.

July 2016 NAV Cumulative Updates

Yesterday (July 5th) new NAV Cumulative Updates have been released. As usually in expectation of new NAV version, Microsoft published updates for the last four NAV versions:

You can download them for the previous links. If you are thinking if this is the right moment for your upgrade to the last version and the last Cumulative Update, the answer is YES. Very soon we will get the newest very impressive NAV version and this will be the first step in preparation for using the newest NAV version.

As usually, NAV 2016 has the most of hotfixes, both platform and application, NAV 2015 slightly less and for the other two versions, just few of them. You can also find some local application hotfixes.

NAV Gallery Image – PS Scripts Order

This week I have training about NAV and Azure and I used some examples in NAV 2016 Gallery Image on Azure.

NAV90GalleryImage.jpg

This image is awesome, but sometime people doesn’t know what PowerShell script can be started before some others. For example, you cannot run “Use Azure SQL Database” and after that “Install Multitenancy”…

Because of that I wanted to make some small help to all people who want to use this NAV 2016 image. In the following, you can find a chart with order of using all PowerShell scripts. Now, you know how to configure all of them on the same VM.

June 2016 CUs for NAV have been released

Today, Microsoft has published new Cumulative Updates:

Generally, NAV 2016 has pretty more Platform Hotfixes than other three versions (they have only few of them). About Application Hotfixes, the last two version have most of all improvement.

Almost all Hotfixes, both Platform and Application are just improving some issues in system. If we wait something new, I think we will wait until new version will be published. In any case, I suggest to install the most recent cumulative update for your NAV version. And still better, upgrade your NAV to the freshest NAV version :). You will not make mistake.

Project Madeira Universal App

If you want to try Project “Madeira” on your devices (phone or tablet for example), you can download this App from App Store or from Windows Store.

When you run them, you will see that system requires Activation Code. This is not the same as you use App for Dynamics NAV (you don’t need to put it URL). You can find this Activation Code if you open “Get The App and Activation Code” page (you can find it using search pane).

MadeiraAC1.jpg

You need to type this Activation Code in your App.

After that system will require to confirm your email as account with password and just wait few seconds. After that, everything will be fine. I’ve checked it with Windows Tablet and Windows Phone and with iPhone, as well. It looks fine.

May 2016 Cumulative Updates for NAV 2016, 2015, 2013R2, 2013

Yesterday, Microsoft has been published the newest Cumulative Updates for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016, NAV 2013R2 and NAV 2013. Today morning, Microsoft has published Cumulative Update for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 as well.

There are the all Cumulative Updates based on versions:

There are not so many Platform hotfixes and more Application hotfixes for almost all business area. Newer versions as usually have more hotfixes.

As usually, these cumulative updates replace previously released cumulative updates.

Posting Groups in Project Madeira

When you create a new company in Project Madeira, you will get the new Chart of Account by default. This Chart of Account is created in this case by US legislation (this version is only for US); I hope it will contain for all countries as we will have localisations.

The same thing is with all posting groups. We have these posting groups already created from the beginning, and we need to use them in data migration process. Of course, if you need more posting groups, you need to add new and setup them as well. By default, we have limited set of posting groups:

  • Customer/Vendor Posting Groups: DOMESTIC
  • Gen. Business Posting Groups: DOMESTIC
  • Get. Product Posting Groups: NO TAX, RETAIL and SERVICES
  • Bank Account Posting Groups: CASH, CHECKING and SAVINGS
  • Inventory Posting Groups: RESALE

And when you open Inventory Posting Setup for your existed group, you will see that we can add GL accounts, but is has not Locations.

MadeiraIPG.jpg

That means we have not locations in the Project “Madeira”. This is not connected only with setup; that also means we cannot use locations in inventory process. You also cannot find fixed assets in Project “Madeira”.

It also means setup is not so hard, but it still requires some specific knowledge about the main thing of system and we cannot expect from client to configure it by himself.
